hey! lotta stuff happened this month. saw a bunch of cool ppl and did a bunch of irl stuff and there were some kitty cats and blah blah yeah crazy month.
one of the largeish projects that i think i talked vaguely about in some of the other blogposts had a good bit of progress last month but this month after looking at the first of the three videos of it nearly complete, i decided to let it go.
there's a few different reasons why, and maybe ill write about it in a dedicated blogpost in the future, but in the end it would've been a lot of work to have the whole thing finished the way i had envisioned it. finishing the first of the three episodes and being underwhelmed with how it was turning out and realizing how much would go into the next two (even tho theyve already been pretty edited and set up) made me realize how much i was putting into this vs what i'd get out of it. the initial idea started nearly two years ago and ive kind of outgrown the project as a whole. i still really like the conclusion of the story, and i'd definitely like to use elements of it in the future, if and when the time comes. letting go of the project kind of happened naturually. like it wasn't a solid/hard decision i decided to make. it just natually kind of came to me that i had outgrown it, and letting go of the project that had been haunting me for nearly two years made it really freeing to start something new(ish).
it was refreshing to just have an idea and dive into executing it. i've had ideas for more dawg logs i wanted to make ever since i was making the first one a year and a half ago, but finishing school and part time work and other creative projects and paralysis kept pushing it back to the side as a "i'll do it once i finish this" type thang. i wrote maybe ten pages about digital minimalism and phone design probably over a year ago but my relationship with my phone and thoughts on the subject kept changing every month and the idea was growing out of its initial scope. so i had a few other ideas for a smaller dawg log i could do and i decided it'd be a lot more approachable to talk about my CD collection.
i had a wake-up call near the end of the month that basically told me that i can't keep chilling like i have been for this year and i need to work more actively towards stuff that'll be good for a stable future rather than just chilling working on personal art projects and posting them online. i think this new video is really cool and all but it might be the last one like it that i make for a while if my future an "online animation guy" doesn't look very promising/stable.
i hate to think about "engagement" and how well art "performs" but if this video "does well" then i'd like to try starting a patreon and seeing how it goes. regardless at least i will have made a video that i think is cool. but yeah i'm kind of banking my future as an online video person on this one video.
a bunch of my friends got into neocities this month! makes me really happy to see their sites and it encouraged me to renovate my code a bit! did a bunch of work on the site and i'm planning a good bit more this coming month! i found out about iframes... this shit gets crazy.
but yeah new video in the next couple weeks, if the people fuck with it then the future looks good and if they don't then i gotta look into a more stable career path.
